"The summer of 2015 marks the twenty-year anniversary of the International Early-Career Scholars Institutes in GIScience.

The organizers and participants in those previous Institutes in co-sponsorship with the Vespucci Initiative invite a new generation of early-career GIScience scholars to with join us to explore Advancing Geographic Information Science: The Past and Next Twenty Years.

A maximum of 25 early-career scholars will be accepted for the conference based upon full-paper or extended abstract submissions. Full papers will be peer-reviewed and, if accepted for the Institute, will be conditionally accepted for inclusion in the book arising from the Institute.

This is not your usual conference. The Institute is designed for maximum interaction in participatory research challenge discussions, presentations, projects, panels and cooperative and competitive research-focused activities. It will also engage participants in informal settings and outdoor opportunities to encourage extended discourse among early-career and senior scholar participants. 

Theme: Advancing Geographic Information Science: The Past and Next Twenty Years

It is envisaged that some members would comprise Drafting Teams and others would want only to be Observers.

Mint emlékezetes, HUNAGI 2002 szeptember 16-19 között fogadta a GSDI közösségét, abban az évben, amikor a GSDI szervezetet jogilag az Egyesült Államokban bejegyezték. A budapesti 6. GSDI konferencia egyike volt azóta is a legsikeresebbeknek: 55 országból mintegy 220 résztvevő volt jelen, a "GSDI: from Global to local" rendezvénynek a MATÁV székház adott otthont és azon részt vett a kormány hírközlési és informatikai minisztere Kovács Kálmán. Esetleg meggondolandó, hogy a gazdaságilag újra erősödő országunk ismét megpályázza a GSDI világkonferencia helyszíneként Budapestet. Természetesen versenyhelyzet lenne ismét, de a részvétel segítheti a későbbi jelentkezések sikerét.

Az ICSU Codata szervezeten keresztül érkezett a T-Systems International GmbH alábbi felhívása:

"T-Systems International GmbH, one of the initiating partners of the Earth monitoring competition Copernicus Masters, will award the best application or service idea that makes use of big data analytics technologies to provide Earth observation intelligence on demand via a user-oriented web portal or mobile devices. The competition is primarily geared toward start-ups and other companies, researchers, and students. Those interested are asked to submit their applications by 13 July 2014 at www.copernicus-masters.com. Please find attached the announcement for the T-Systems Big Data Challenge."
